2016 Campus Oaks Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi
The wine has a rich garnet color, with a cherry, plum, and baking spice aroma. On the palate you will notice a rich and silky body that ends with a medium-long finish of gentle spice on the tongue.
Our Zinfandel grapes are sourced from four very different vineyards spread throughout the Lodi Appellation. We have sourced our grapes from the same vineyards for many years, and work closely with the growers to make sure that they are perfect for the style of wine we wish to make. Some vineyards are harvested earlier than others, when the flavors are more herbaceous and black-peppery. Others are harvested later in the season when the dark, jammy fruit flavors are prominent. Blending the fruit from these diverse vineyards gives us the complex wine that we love to make and drink!
In the wine cellar, we age the Zinfandel on a mixture of both American and French oak. The wine generally spends at least one year in barrels to help it develop the soft, baking spice finish that our Zinfandel is known for.
