Dark purple/garnet hue with ripe plum, blackberry, and a hint of clove and leather on the nose. On the palate this wine delivers with dark chocolate and lightly toasted oak with mild tannins. The finish is fruity and smooth.
The Campus Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single vineyard in the Lodi Appellation. We pick the fruit when we feel that the flavors are at their highest, and minimally oak the wine in the cellar. We find that many wineries attempt to make "BIG CABS" that are high in alcohol and extremely oaky. There is definitely a place in the world for these style of wines, but we don't want to be like everybody else! Our Cabernet Sauvignon is very fruit forward, yet still made in a European style which is light and fresh. The oak is present and complimentary to the fruit, not overpowering.
Our Gold Medal award at the 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for our Cabernet suggests that we may not be far off in our thinking!
